In Fallout 76, the Survival Tent is a versatile and portable camp that offers essential amenities like a cooking station, sleeping bag, stash box, scrap box, and sometimes a musical instrument. It is available exclusively to Fallout 1st subscribers, providing a secondary fast travel point and access to your stash and scrapbox. However, once placed, the Survival Tent cannot be removed in the traditional sense. Here’s how you can manage your Survival Tent in the game:
How to Move a Survival Tent
While you cannot dismantle or remove a Survival Tent, you can move it to a different location. This process effectively relocates the tent from its current position to a new one without any additional costs or resource requirements.
  1. Access the Favorites Menu: On PC, press
    F
  2. to open the Favorites menu. On Xbox and PlayStation, press Up on the D-Pad.
  3. Select the Survival Tent: Choose the Survival Tent option from the menu.
  4. Find a New Location: Move the projection of the tent around until it turns green, indicating a valid placement area.
  5. Place the Tent: Confirm the placement by pressing the corresponding button (
    T
  6. on PC).
Restrictions on Placement
  • Incompatible Terrain: Areas with red outlines are not suitable for tent placement due to terrain issues or proximity to restricted zones.
  • Proximity to Existing Structures: You cannot place a Survival Tent near existing C.A.M.P.s, Workshops, or fast travel locations.
  • Restricted Areas: Certain in-game locations, such as around Vault 76 or the Whitespring Golf Club, do not allow Survival Tent placement.
For players seeking a cost-effective way to manage their survival setup in Fallout 76, building a compact structure is a good alternative to relying on the Survival Tent. This approach allows adding essential amenities like a stash box, cooking station, and workbenches. However, it requires using in-game Fallout 76 caps each time you want to relocate the structure, offering a budget-conscious way to maintain a mobile base without the need for a Fallout 1st subscription.
"Removing" a Survival Tent
The only way to effectively "remove" a Survival Tent is by canceling your Fallout 1st subscription. This action will erase the "My Survival Tent" icon from your map, effectively removing access to the tent. However, this method does not allow you to keep the tent; it simply removes your ability to use it.
Creating a Free Alternative
For players who do not wish to subscribe to Fallout 1st, there is a workaround to create a makeshift survival platform using the game's building mechanics. This involves constructing a compact structure with essential workbenches and storage, which can be placed similarly to a Survival Tent but requires in-game resources and caps to move.
  1. Build a Compact Structure: Use a 2x2 area to create a small platform with a staircase.
  2. Add Essential Features: Include a stash box, cooking station, scrap box, and any other desired workbenches or items.
  3. Place and Move: This structure can be placed and moved like a Survival Tent but costs caps each time it is relocated.
In summary, while you cannot remove a Survival Tent in the traditional sense, you can move it freely or cancel your subscription to stop using it. For non-subscribers, creating a custom survival platform offers a cost-effective alternative.
